Los Angeles based band Captain Danger released this 6 track EP in 2021 and on it, they blend pop, rock, funk and a dash of soul and even reggae. And after listening a couple of times, I really cannot decide which side of them I like best. Except for their reggae version of Boys Don’t Cry from The Cure, that does not work for me. Their funk rock side, however, works just fine. Great grooves combined with fluid solos and funky vibes create something that is worth listening to.
Their danger might be that they try to be too many things at once. So I would recommend sticking to what fuels the fire and let other influences work as the icing on the cake. Of course, that is just me.
Overall a pleasant introduction to the band, curious to hear what’s next for them.
