The brainchild of the (to me) unknown Srdjan Brankovic, Expedition Delta has been a few years in the making. Recorded in 2005 and 2006, mixed and mastered in 2007 and released in 2008. So bare with me for not discussing it earlier 😉
The guest list is pretty impressive nevertheless: Gary Wehrkamp, Erik Norlander, Richard Andersson, and or Sabine Edelbacher, one could do worse! And with names like this, you are pretty sure beforehand what the musical style is gonna be. Yep, progressive rock / metal. More rock than metal by the way, but that is part due to the way it is mixed and mastered. It took me some spins before I realised this isn´t on the lighter side, it is just not compressed to death. A bold move, but one that repays itself because of the more open sound.
Still a lot of prog metal styled outings can be heard, blistering solo´s on both keyboard and guitar, riffs to the million, fast paced drums and more variation that the average bakery. The good thing is, when the rock takes over, those parts are often very beautiful. Great singing from various ladies, good melodies and a lot of depth.
One of those albums that gets better with every spin, so invest that time and fall in love with it. Then you will listen past those millions of notes and get the beauty within.
