The Dragon Kings design team announced today the much-anticipated first track is recorded, mastered, and ready for fans to hear on YouTube.
“We’ve spent considerable time in the studio,” says project creator Timothy Brown, “and I’m genuinely pleased with the results. This first track is indicative of our musical direction. It’s a powerful, progressive song with some really unique rhythms and themes.”
The first preview track is titled Lotus Warriors, noted as Track 05 of the Dragon Kings CD. The song was written by the project’s musical director, Mike Stone (former guitarist for Queensrÿche), with lyrics by Brown. Performances are credited as follows: Stone on lead vocals and lead guitar, Brown on background vocals and bass guitar, with Mark Stevens on rhythm guitar and Frank Klepacki on drums and percussion. Klepacki also mastered the track.
The version presented on YouTube presents the song Lotus Warriors through the end of its first chorus. The song is accompanied by fantasy artwork from the fictional Dragon Kings universe. The lyrics follow the story of a single hero; in Lotus Warriors, that hero is enslaved and forced to fight as a gladiator. They lyrics have been previously released on the project’s website and Facebook page.
Other sample Dragon Kings songs, and other clipped versions of Lotus Warriors, will be made available before or during the project’s Kickstarter fundraising effort, due to begin later in September.
About Dragon Kings
Dragon Kings is Timothy Brown’s ‘spiritual successor’ to his award-winning Dark Sun role-playing universe, co-designed with author Troy Denning and artist Gerald Brom for the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons game. Dragon Kings is a new fantasy game world conceived and presented in fiction, art, and music simultaneously. The project will be crowd sourced and eventually expand beyond role-playing and music into comics, video, and computer games. The product launch envisions a hardbound game book, an art-intensive album-sized world gazetteer and lyrics booklet, and a full-length progressive rock CD.
