Imagine if you will a mix of Tom Waits and PJ Harvey with roots in Americana and folk rock, and you will start to get an idea of what this album by Kate Vargas is about. There is no denying that a certain alternative pop feel is lurking around in the songs on offer. But the songs go deeper than your average pop single. Way deeper in fact. Maybe because of her Mexican roots and New York living?
This album has been playing regularly for quite some time, and I keep being intrigued by its sound and arrangements that go beyond its Americana label. And that unique voice of Kate, a distinctive rasp like no other I have ever heard. All in all a very diverse offering that is very much worth checking out!
