This English four-piece around singer and instrumentalist Gregg McKella, has been around since 1998, but it is actually the first album I have heard from them. Self-described as a rock band, for me this album is a mix of the pop from bands like Blur and Suede (mainly due to the typical English vocals), space rock and a dash of progrock. Yet, where often space rock leads to endless repeating of the same musical idea(s), the band manage to deliver tracks with head and tail. So the songs bring us a nice variation of moods and are accompanied by lots of social commentary in the lyrics. Which suits their space punk roots I guess.
There are 8 songs on offer here, ranging from almost 4 to over 9 minutes. And in contradiction to what I implied before, the longer ones I like best. Star of the show for me is Shine On. Other highlights are the title track and This Is Your Inheritance. But truth be told, while it took me a bit of time to really get into the album, it is a grower and gets better with every play. Definitely worth checking out!
